Why Does First Street Need to Be Closed?

This provides a safe arena for pedestrians and the motorcycles. People are free to move about and explore the many specialty shops without worrying about traffic concerns. Concentrates more vehicles in fewer parking spaces, with less chance of property damage. Provides space for a safe performance by the Seattle Cossacks stunt team. Wide street for access by emergency vehicles. Concentrates people and vehicles in the historic business and shopping district.  Side streets remain open for auto use.
